CoVaRR-Net

Funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

CoVaRR-Net, or Coronavirus Variants Rapid Response Network, is a network of interdisciplinary researchers from institutions across the country created to assist in the Government of Canada’s overall strategy to address the potential threat of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants (known as “variants of concern” or VOC).

Our mandate is to coordinate, facilitate, support, and accelerate rapid response research throughout Canada.


Program Activities

CoVaRR-Net is moving into it third year. To date, the work on UPHN’s end has involved:

  1. Coordinating and connecting with the Variants of Concern Expert Panel during calendar 2021
  2. Publishing various knowledge products pertaining to VOC panel priorities
  3. Conducting primary research on COVID-19 mitigation in school settings across the country
  4. Parlaying 2021/2022 local public health unit-level interview data to describe intersectoral responses to COVID-19
  5. Analyzing COVID-19 outcome trend data to assess and characterize sub-provincial outbreaks
  6. Presented our findings from #3.) at 2023 Canadian Society for Epidemiology and Biostatistics; and #4.) andat the 2023 CoVaRR-NET General Meeting in Ottawa.

Our 2023 activities include:

  1. Extensive consultation with experts across the country to inform the strategy for a project to assess public trust in immunizations and public health, since the pandemic.
  2. Development of research proposal, instrument design and ethics for TRUST project
  3. Continued synthesis of preceding CoVaRR-Net research data
